I’ve been reading books on Windows Mobile based PocketPCs for years. The neat thing about that is, all smartphones seem to come with a word processing program of some sort. So if you find a place to download free ebooks (Baen Books’ free library for example http://www.baen.com/library/) you can just go ahead and put them on your phone and always have a book on you. Its awesome. I’m never without reading materal.
Now, I was reading a news post over at Penny Aracade (http://www.penny-arcade.com/) where Gabe mentions the Kindle App for Iphone. I don’t know much about Iphones, like I said, I’ve had a web-enabled, touch-screen smartphone for years longer than the Iphone existed, but I’ve got to assume that they have some sort of word-processing softward already installed out of the box. If they don’t, that’s one more reason not to buy the silly, overpriced thing (oh look! we added cut and paste! we’re revolutionary!). And if it does, why are people downloading apps that do the same damn thing as programs that are already installed!
I can’t keep the world from drowning in its own idiocy, but I can rail against it.
p.s. This is not intended as an insult to Gabe (yes I know that’s not his real name) he was just the catalyst for today’s rant.
