It is hotter in Sacrameno at 10:00 at night than it is in Eureka at noon on the hottest day of the year. And they’re calling for 102f today. Let’s hope the little truck can handle hills and heat. I have faith in it, its a tough little thing.
Technically this is the morning of Day 2, but I’m looking back at Day 1 since I was way to tired to write last night.
Late start yesterday. Took forever to get the last little bits out of the apartment. The little odds and ends that don’t really fit in boxes or anywhere logical and just get bungie corded to the top of the pile. And don’t even get me started on cleaning. *sigh*
So hit the road at the crack of 4pm. Made it all the way to Sacramento and I-80 before I had to crash. I-80 is significant because I will now drive it the entire rest of my way. City-wise I should hit Reno today and maybe Salt Lake City. The Sierra Nevada (no S dammit) and Rockies ought to be interesting. I forsee a lot of 30 to 45 mph driving. Oh, and hauling the trailer has killed my mpg by about 1/3. Fun.
The overall mood for yesterday was “hot”. Seriously. I’ve become way to acclimated to the coast in the last 6 years. I forgot what hot was like. But I’m now being forcibly reminded. I’m a little worried about my plants. They are “medium sun” creatures and they are getting a lot more than medium.
The stars were beautiful last night. I’d forgotten what they look like without haze dimming them. It was so clear and the moon rose very late but you could almost drive by the starlight they were so bright.
Have I mentioned I love roadtrips? If it weren’t for the inherent danger of hauling a trailer through 102 degree weather I’d be absolutely delusional with happiness. As it is, I’m still pretty damn happy.
Oh and hello Dia, thanks for checking out my blog. Nice to know I’ve picked up a new reader. Hopefully you enjoy it and stick around. 🙂
