What we have wrought.

Politicians have been fanning these flames for years and now they’ve gotten burned. Democrats vs. Republicans. “Conservatives” vs. “Liberals”. These artificial divisions have been used to manipulate us, make us hate each other, to make us easier to control. Is it any surprise that yet another person has succumbed to this toxic mentality and taken…

You Had One Job…

You are a busy person. You’ve got work. Maybe kids. Maybe kids who are in 15 different events that keep you running from before sunup to after sundown. And your own interests. Maybe you even find time to mow the lawn. Why am I stating such obvious things? Because you don’t have time to do…

“Bad” News

This is going to resemble a lecture. If you have a problem with that, close the window. It won’t cost you anything. Then again, it won’t cost you anything to stay. You might actually gain something. The news has a purpose. It is here to enlighten, to empower and to educate. We go to school to…

Where the Heck is the Levant?

There is a terrorist organization out there right now that we’ve all heard of and the English translation of its name is commonly shortened to ISIL. Yes, I’m referring to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. You may be asking, as the title of the piece does, Where (or what) the Heck is…

Ernst’s Nostalgia Trip Shows us Why She was the Wrong Choice

In giving the GOP response to the State of the Union, freshman Senator from Iowa Joni Ernst gave a small speech where she was supposed to be telling us why she can relate to us average people. Please read on so you can see how she screwed up. “We were raised to live simply, not to…

So-called Journalists

I’m probably the only one that notices these things, but the media goes through phases where they latch on to a word or phrase and then overuse the hell out of it. Currently, it’s the phrase “so-called”. First, let’s check the definition. Merriam-Webster lays it out as: so–called adjective \ˈsō-ˈkȯld\ —used to indicate the name…

Holy crap!

Haven’t posted in FOREVER. What’s up with that. I’ll come up with something… Oh, here we go. Only in government could changing the way teachers are paid be called “education reform”. And no one calls them on it! Incredible!

The Newtown Shooting is Your Fault

Yes, it is. Guns haven’t really changed in 30 years. Video games have been violent for at least 30 years. Movies have been violent for at least 30 years. And yet FBI statistics show that the number of mass shootings has remained fairly stable over the last 30 years. The things that have changed in mass…

BMI is a dangerously inaccurate hoax

Hey “journalists”, please, for all our sakes, stop using BMI in your poorly researched stories. It is so freakishly inaccurate that it could actually kill someone. For instance: I’m a 6 foot tall man. According to a BMI chart, I would be at a “normal” weight at 140 pounds. I am “overweight” at 184, “obese”…

Is it a basic freedom to punch stupid people?

Here in Iowa, the state supreme court threw out the law that marriage is only between a man and woman, based on the concept that it takes away a basic freedom (happiness, etc.) of a certain part of the population. In Iowa, judges are appointed, but every few years they go up for “retention elections”….
